In the beginning

So you want to get started but aren't sure how? Not wanting to read the entire tutorial and just dying to let the creativity flow, eh? That's okay - we understand. Here are some steps to get you started.

  • Notice the search bar to the left. This is also a 'creation' tool, if you will. Type in the title of the work you wish to create. If no matching title comes up, there will be a link at the top to 'create this page.' Click the link and you are ready to go - you'll find the markup tools at the top.
  • If you are unsure about formatting your story, simply hit 'edit' on another story, and take notice of the coding used - it's just about the best way to learn.
  • Have fun. Be civil and work with your fellow writers!

Adding your story to a genre

  • Okay, you just wrote your article but you don't see it in the portal or genre area. Well, that's because only you can place it there because we have no idea what you just wrote! Go the the Portal:List of portals. Click on the genre you want. Click 'edit' at the top of the page. Add the following text where [[Story]] is the name of your story:
*[[Story]]

For example, if your story is titled Text Message, insert: *[[Text Message]] (make sure to include the asterisk). Insert just below where it says Writers Build XXXX Stories.

  • Make sure to keep it in alphabetical order and save the page. Done!

Editing an existing story

Yes, that's why we are here - a collaborate effort between writers, copyeditors, and of course, the readers. You can search the List of Portals for a story or idea. Feel free to add, edit or just browse. Don't forget to hit the 'watch' button on an article you like, so you can be notified of changes whenever you hit 'my watchlist' at the top right. Even better, you can go to your preferences, and set your watchlist to automatically add any page you edit!
